Who is Eligible for Hospice care?
Those who are eligible for hospice care have a medical condition with a life expectancy of 6 months or less, if the disease follows its normal course. This is clinically determined by the patient's primary care physician and the hospice medical director. By opting for hospice care, the patient is choosing a plan of comfort and care rather than curative treatment, which is no longer effective.
An individual must be entitled to Medicare Part A in order to be eligible for hospice care covered by Medicare benefits. Who pays for hospice care?
